Vexille is a beautifully animated sci fi action feature set 69 years into the future. Japan has for years been totally isolated from the rest of the world. Events unfolding leads the United Nations to suspect that Japan has developed robotic technology that has been internationally banned for years. A team of soldiers (dressed in very cool combat exo-skelletons) are sent to infiltrate Tokyo and find out what has happened.

I'm not a huge fan of Anime and Jap-animation but I've seen my fair share. While they are usually top notch when it comes to technical stuff like quality of animation and sound, instead they tend to lack in areas like story, coherence and acting. More than once I've found an animated feature difficult to follow plot-wise and thought perhaps it was because I live on the “wrong” side of the globe. This was not the case with Vexille - it has top notch animation AND a great story. The only thing I felt was never quite developed as much as it could have been was the triangle love story between the main characters. This didn't really add much to the story and could had been dropped all together. Vexille lends stuff from other movies, much notably the sand worms from Dune. Still they look more impressive here than they ever did in Dune.

I recommend Vexille to anyone interested in seeing a good sci fi action movie - not just a great animated feature.
