Genre: Drama horror mystery
I guess it's official by now. M. Night Shyamalan has lost his touch. It was pretty evident with his last effort Lady in the water, but OK any director can do one bad movie. But two in a row is not a good sign.
So what is wrong with this movie? Well, it starts out pretty good. Some kind of invisible attack in central park, New York prompts people to kill themselves. The mystery builds and during 30 minutes or so I'm watching a decent horror mystery.
Then the suspense is completely shattered with a scene on a field where the whole movie turns into something really really silly. From there it's all downhill. There are scenes in the movie that are so bad the audience in the theatre actually laughed out loud and Mark Wahlberg does one of his worst roles so far. It's a R-rated movie but many of the gory scenes could have been left out as they do not add anything to the story.
Mr Shyamalan, you have A LOT to prove with your next movie. Hopefully this was your last crappy one.
I give The happening: 2 out of 5
